While many Americans were busy celebrating the 4th of July, the hacker group AntiSec was busy hacking into Apple and Fox News. AntiSec was able to expose numerous email and password combinations related to Apple and infiltrated a Fox News’ Twitter account, sending several tweets claiming that US President Obama had been assassinated.
Six tweets were sent out to Fox News’ Twitter account, which has 34,000 followers, indicating that President Obama had been killed. The tweets were deleted after Twitter suspended the account and returned control of the account back to Fox News. “We will be requesting a detailed investigation from Twitter about how this occurred, and measures to prevent future unauthorized access into FoxNews.com accounts,” said Jeff Misenti, vice president and general manager of Fox News Digital.
“The network was not in control of the account once it was hacked, and Twitter was unreachable until late morning eastern time yesterday. The tweets were taken down as soon as Twitter gave back control of the account to the network,” Misenti added.
The night before this, someone saw a twitter account, associated with AntiSec, that mentioned a possible future target. “Apple could be target, too. But don’t worry, we are busy elsewhere,” the tweet stated. The tweet implied that Apple could be a future target of a large hack.Further reading: AntiSec, Security
