The Forza series from Turn 10 Studios is celebrating a crowning achievement today. According to Xbox Wire, the franchise finally hit the $1 billion milestone in retail sales as of December 2016. As if there was any doubt, the exclusive Microsoft Studios racing game is cementing its place among the popular choice of the genre.
Along with the big announcement, the news also included some more fun stats about the Forza series. This includes the 14 million unique players that play Forza across Xbox One and Windows 10, the recently launched Forza Horizon 3 selling 2.5 million units since September 2016, and the bold claim that Forza is the best-selling racing game.
“Since the beginning, Forza has combined stunning graphics, racing’s leading simulation engine, and an emphasis on fun and accessibility,” said Phil Spencer, head of Xbox. “With the Forza series, Turn 10 Studios has built the world’s largest racing community. We couldn’t be more proud of their success.”
It seems the community has grown substantially as well with the addition of eSports leagues and the Forza Racing Championship where racers compete for prizes worth as high as $150,000. While the community is still recovering from Season 2’s event where both Forza Horizon 3 and Forza Motorsport 6, the game is continuing to grow with more competition, co-op, and racing for everyone to enjoy.
