In a sudden twist, yet possibly expected turn of events, Fortnite developer, Epic Games, has announced that Fortnite will be gaining cross-platform play between Xbox and other platforms.

As part of this change, players of Fortnite will see cross-platform play, cross-progression, and cross-purchase across all of the below platforms:

  • Xbox One
  • PC and Mac
  • iOS and Android

Fortnite on Xbox One cross-platform play

Announcing the news, Epic Games’ Fortnite team said:

Contrary to what may have been implied, Microsoft has long been a leading voice in supporting cross-platform play, connecting players across PC, mobile and all consoles. We’ve been working together with them over the last several months to make this possible, and will bring this functionality to Fortnite players on Xbox right along with other platforms.

So, it won’t be long until those on Xbox will be able to play their favourite ‘battle royale’ game alongside their friends who have chosen other platforms.
