It’s been a long time coming but the mega-popular Fortnite video game has finally added Star Wars’ original trio, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo, as playable outfits/skins.

While each character’s design has been adjusted to match Fortnite’s aesthetic, they look remarkably similar to their live-action counterparts with all three actually looking more accurate than their models in other, more realistic, Star Wars video games.

Each member of the Original Trilogy trinity comes with at least three unique appearances inspired from A New Hope and Return of the Jedi. Luke has both his farm boy and Jedi (with and without cloak) looks, Leia has both of her famous princess and bounty hunter designs (with customisable hoods and masks,) and Han comes with his two regular outfits from Episode IV and VI plus an alternate look that enables the trench coat he wore on Endor in VI.

In addition to the main character designs, each hero also comes with a back bling and pickaxe with Leia’s back bling, R2D2, likely going to be the most popular with Star Wars fans.

All of this content can now be purchased within the in-game Fortnite store with V-Bucks and a special Skywalker event is currently active on the Battle Royale island which has brought back a Star Destroyer in the skies above and Darth Vader and his Stormtroopers on the ground. Players can now fight it out with Luke’s blue and green lightsabers, the E-11 blaster rifle, and the pulse rifle. A series of quests are also now live which reward players with XP for progressing through this season’s Battle Pass.

While this Original Trilogy collab is currently being received really well by players, it does seem a bit random given that there currently aren’t any new Star Wars media projects featuring these characters. One would think it’d make more sense to add content inspired by the new Andor and Tales of the Jedi series which recently debuted on Disney Plus.

One theory for why this collab launched this week in Fortnite is that it was originally meant to coincide with a Star Wars project featuring Luke, Leia, and Han that has since been delayed due to the pandemic or some other reason. Another theory is that this collab is a tease for Leia or Han to pop up in an upcoming episode of Andor, a nice complement to Luke’s appearances in Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett.
