A flagship Lumia 928 coming to Verizon, Windows Phone lovers can finally rejoice

Lumia 928 by Evleaks

It seems Nokia is finally spreading it’s wings into Verizon’s territory in a big way. We have been hearing rumors and seeing leaked photos for about a month now. However, we had no way of knowing if these leaks were legit. Now, we are hearing with people who are familiar with this deal that there is a variant of the Lumia 920 coming to Verizon.

According to Bloomberg, two people who are familiar with tthe Nokia/Verizon deal stated that Verizon will be getting its own Nokia flagship dubbed “Lumia 928”. The two people inside this deal have requested not to be named for obvious reasons. However, the details confirm what most of us suspected. This new flagship device, similar to the Lumia 920 over at AT&T, will come with a 4.5-inch display, an 8 megapixel camera, and wireless charging.

Unlike its older brother, this new device will come with an aluminum body rather than a polycarbonate one. Most people have suggested, including yours truly, that this was done in order to reduce the weight and thickness that was complained about in the 920. What the sources have not said is if the device will come with “Zenon” flash as earlier leaks, including the picture, have stated. We will just have to wait and see if this piece of hardware will make it through to the final product.

This deal comes at a crucial time for Nokia, who is just starting to dig itself out of a spiraling drop in market share. No doubt this new device will bring much needed increase in sales figures. How much exactly? That is something we will only know after the device is out. Verizon already has the Lumia 822 in its portfolio. Though, I am sure that Verizon, Nokia, not to mention Microsoft, will do extensive marketing in time for this lovely metallic beauty to come to fruition.

Even though global sales of Lumia devices have risen from 4.4 million in the holiday season to 5.5 in Q1, Nokia still has a very long way to go before it can go toe to toe with the Apple iPhone or Samsung’s Galaxy line. Until then, I will be waiting at my doorstep for a new aluminum, hopefully red, Lumia 928 from Verizon.
