Almost every Overwatch fan knows the name Doomfist. As part of the game’s lore, Doomfist is a name to fear as he is one of the leaders of the Talon terrorist organization, directly opposing Overwatch as one of the world’s greatest threats. Now, he is coming to fans as the next playable hero and you can try him out right now on the Public Test Realm.
Akande Ogundimu is the current bearer of the Doomfist gauntlet. After he was defeated by Overwatch, the gauntlet was since placed on display in the Numbani museum. However, not long before Orisa was released, the Doomfist gauntlet was ‘stolen’ and Ogundimu had gone missing. It appears he’s ready to make his grand entrance soon in the game.
Doomfist is an offensive hero that likes to be right in the center of the fight with hard-hitting melee abilities. Here are some details from the PTR patch notes:
Doomfist’s cybernetics make him a highly mobile, powerful frontline fighter. His primary attack is the Hand Cannon; this four-shot weapon fires projectiles from Doomfist’s knuckles one a time or in a single blast. With his secondary attack, Rocket Punch, he charges forward and delivers a devastating blow, knocking back any opponent it connects with and dealing extra damage if the enemy is hurled into a wall.
Seismic Slam smashes into a targeted area, knocking opponents toward him so he can deal further damage. His Rising Uppercut tosses enemies high into the air, while his passive ability, The Best Defense…, grants him shields every time he uses one of his abilities against an opponent. Lastly, his ultimate ability, Meteor Strike, causes him to leap high and drop into a targeted area, dealing massive amounts of damage.
You can read more about Doomfist’s abilities and story on his hero page. Shouldn’t be more than a couple of weeks before we see the rumored Summer Games/Doomfist patch go live across PC and consoles so keep an ear out for the sound of punches being thrown.
