Dive into some dev projects this holiday weekend

Kit McDonald

Now that one holiday is over and everyone is preparing for the next, the Windows App Team gave us a list of gifts to developers. These projects are perfect for those looking to tackle a new idea or reinvent one of their old ones.

  • IoT Projects – The Internet of Things is a very hands-on development work that can also test your engineering skills. Microsoft Projects has a slew of instructions to create things such as the Magic Mirror, and automatic Fish Feeder, and even a Turkey Tweeter that keeps you updated on the bird’s status while it cooks. All of these are ranging from Easy to Expert giving developers of every skill a chance to dive in.
  • Devices and Sensors – Pedometers, Gyrometers, Barcode scanners, Cash draws, light sensors and more are all available on the GitHub. What better way to get your hands on a new project than to play with APIs than to grab and open-source project and take it apart to learn the ins and outs?
  • Microsoft Open Source Code – The Redmond giant even has its own open source list on GitHub. In fact, it’s forty pages of packaging toolkits, SDKs, documentations, scripts, and repositories. This is also the place to nab the beloved Microsoft Cognitive Toolkit.

If you’re looking for inspiration for your next development project or just something to tackle for the long holiday weekend, the Microsoft Apps Team has your back.
