Development has ceased on Scalebound, the much hyped action game from Platinum

It has been nearly three years since we’ve heard anything about Scalebound. The Xbox One exclusive was actually one of the most anticipated games following its reveal at E3 in 2014. Unfortunately, Kotaku reports that Microsoft has officially axed the game.

Platinum’s action title had its Xbox page taken down quietly, but fans noticed the transition. Out of curiosity, the gaming site asked for an official statement from Microsoft as to how the game’s development was going. Their response:

After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for “Scalebound.” We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including “Halo Wars 2,” “Crackdown 3,” “State of Decay 2,” “Sea of Thieves” and other great experiences.

Eurogamer reports that they knew the game was having difficulties beginning last year. Their sources confirmed that several senior members on the development team caved under heavy workloads and that it caused a significant delay. “With continuing issues surrounding the game’s engine and overdue deadlines, the decision was made that the project could no longer continue,” the article explained.

There is still hope for fans that the title will continue development at a later date. For now, Microsoft seems to have other priorities for the future of Xbox One.
