Another major PC industry company, Dell, is feeling vocal about the negative effects that Windows RT is causing them. Dell isn’t too happy about current Windows RT sales.
A Dell executive made a statement today saying that the demand for the company’s first Windows RT tablet, the Dell XPS 10 demand “has been weaker than hoped”. For one reason, many people don’t understand what Windows RT is and what it can do, when essentially it is just a version of Windows 8 that runs on the ARM-architecture rather than x86. According to the market information for the company, it’s essentially “not good enough” and has been steadily negative. Dell’s market isn’t the only thing being affected. The app experience “has not been as strong as it needed to be” since it’s release in the market about six months ago.
Many other companies have struggled selling their Windows RT devices. Nvidia, one of the companies developing ARM-based processors, has also expressed concern over the lack of sales for Windows RT tablet devices and stated that they’ve been “disappointing so far”. Samsung was one of the companies that actually scrapped its plans to release a device.
While many may question Windows RT as a reliable or selling product, Dell has had more success “selling its device directly to consumers than offering it through retailers” because they know what Windows RT can do a lot better than the people working in retail do. Currently, Dell is working with Microsoft to help educate many users about the benefits of using Windows RT and what sets it apart from the other different operating systems running on the large assortments of tablets out on the market.
Dell is quite optimistic that Windows RT will be successful in the future, and is committed to continue to push the Dell XPS 10 in the market, and refuses to release Android-based devices. Every PC manufacturer is aiming to be successful in manufacturing tablets, and while many of these companies sell PC’s, many are struggling to meet the demands of tablet users- as mobile devices are in need.
Microsoft commented by saying that because the market is “evolving and highly dynamic” and that they will be working with companies to “bring even more innovation to market across tablets and PCs.” For now, there is a lot of time for innovation, and a lot more room for these companies to grow. In the future, Windows RT will be just like any other operating system, but only if the consumers know what they are using and what makes it different than operating systems like Android or iOS.Dell, Windows RT
