Minecraft, the widely popular sandbox video game, is celebrating its tenth anniversary and Microsoft has discounted its price on the Microsoft Store by $10 for the occasion.
The game allows players to build with a variety of different blocks in a 3D procedurally generated world, requiring creativity from players. Other activities in the game include exploration, resource gathering, crafting, and combat.
As part of its anniversary celebrations, earlier this week, the company released Minecraft Classic available to play for free on the web.
At Build 2019, Microsoft’s annual developer conference, the company teased an upcoming augmented reality version of Minecraft that will be announced later this month.
Developed by Mojang, a Swedish game developer in Stockholm, Minecraft became one of the best-selling video games of all time and the company was acquired by Microsoft Studios (now known as Xbox Game Studios) in November 2014. Incidentally, this was the first multi-billion dollar acquisition by Microsoft under the leadership of current CEO Satya Nadella.
You can download Minecraft for Windows 10 from the Microsoft Store. In the US, for example, the game is available at a 37% discount from its original price of $26.99.
