During the big Xbox reveal on the Xbox campus today, Microsoft revealed that the new Xbox is called “Xbox One” and launches “later this year.” But for those who currently have an Xbox Live membership, fear not, your membership will work on the new Xbox One.

According to Phil Harrison, a corporate VP at Microsoft, the same Xbox Live Gold membership will work on both the Xbox 360 as well as Xbox One. Once the new Xbox One hits shelves later this year, you won’t have to worry about purchasing a subscription.

Citing an example where a father and son share the same Gold membership, Harrison states that the same membership can be shared by multiple people. “We want to make sure that you and your son both have your own account. We want you log in to get your stuff, and when he logs in to get his stuff. On that console, if you have Gold, he can use Gold as well.” Each user, however, can adjust their own settings and customizations.

An Xbox Live Gold membership offers gamers the ability to play online multiplayer games, free game demos, access to internet via Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser for Xbox, an stream movies/TV shows via Netflix and Hulu Plus.
