Video: This is Cortana working on the lock screen in Windows 10 build 14316

Cortana working on the lock screen was a feature announced at BUILD last week, but has only shown up in today’s form via a hidden registry switch which once enabled, allows “Hey Cortana” to be activated when your PC is locked. The feature is buggy in this build, which is probably why it wasn’t advertised officially.

We’ve made a super short demo showcasing the new feature, which you can view below. You can enable this yourself by following these instructions:

  1. Open Regedit
  2. Navigate to HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Speech_OneCore\Preferences\
  3. Create new DWORD called VoiceActivationEnableAboveLockscreen
  4. Set Value to 1
  5. Reboot and enable Hey Cortana

Let us know what you think in the comments area! What other commands would you like Cortana to gain in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update?
