The Xbox One comes with a very large power brick (officially referred to as the Xbox One power supply unit). It’s been the butt of many jokes due to its size and the heat it generates but until recently, it could not be replaced if broken. Users now have the option to purchase a new power supply unit if theirs breaks. They can also get a new one for free if it’s under warranty and they go through the Online Service Center.
The news comes from Xbox’s Larry Hyrb (aka Major Nelson) on Reddit (via Windows Central). In response to a complaint that “It’s actually impossible to get an extra power supply brick…” Larry Hyrb responded by stating
“Hey gang, I have an update on this. I have worked w/ the Support team and we’ve enabled the option to purchase additional Xbox One power supply units via https://myservice.xbox.com
I have not had a chance to check it out myself yet – but the team just emailed me to let me know they have added that option to the online tool.
While Larry mentioned purchasing the power supply unit, Windows Central added that you can have it replaced for free if you’re under warranty. This option being available is overdue but welcomed for users of the Xbox One.Further reading: Microsoft, Xbox One
