The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, along with the governments of India and Norway, Wellcome, and the World Economic Forum, have come together to found the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). The coalition is going to be driving research to combat outbreaks of any kind, and is starting with an initial investment of $460 million from he governments of Germany, Japan and Norway, plus the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Wellcome Trust.

The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations will seek to outsmart epidemics by developing safe and effective vaccines against known infectious disease threats that could be deployed rapidly to contain outbreaks, before they become global health emergencies.

The Bill & Melinda Gates foundation will continue to support the coalition financially as time goes on, pledging to a continued $100 million investment over the course of the next 5 years. The founding of the organization is the latest stand taken by the Gates in order to stand with vaccines in a time where pseudo-science threatens to endanger them.
