Anonymous claims to have shut down over 40 child pornography websites

Anonymous, one of the worlds most famous hacking groups that attacked many government websites and databases, have today said that they have closed down over 40 child pornography sites. This is a strange move for the group, which is usually aiming to illegally bring down government and business websites.

Anonymous started another a group called “Operation Darknet” when it discovered a network of pornography websites under the name Hidden Wiki. The site contained links to over 40 child pornography websites. Anonymous decided to use their hacking abilities against these websites to take them down.

Anonymous said: “By taking down Freedom Hosting, we are eliminating 40+ child pornography websites, among these is Lolita City, one of the largest child pornography websites to date containing more than 100 GB of child pornography. We will continue to not only crash Freedom Hosting’s server, but any other server we find to contain, promote, or support child pornography.”

This isn’t the Anonymous we all know, Anonymous was known for taking down government and business websites in an attempt to get publicity. Now, the group are hacking for good things, this is the type of hacking we like.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think Anonymous have decided to change their ways and do better for the good?
