Amazon UK has stopped selling the black color variant of the Lumia 950 XL directly. The product page is still up on Amazon UK, but the retailer didn’t offer a sound explanation of why it is not selling the phablet anymore, except that “there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item.”

amazon uk 950 xlHere’s the statement posted on the Lumia 950 XL product page on Amazon UK website:

While this item is available from other Marketplace Sellers on this page, it’s not currently offered by Amazon.co.uk because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are dispatching it, or the way it’s described here. (Thanks for the tip!)

We are working to resolve this as quickly as possible. In the meantime, you may still find this product available from other sellers on this page.

There’s no word on what’s wrong with the handset, as it’s not only Amazon UK, Carphone Warehouse also stopped selling the handset, and are taking pre-orders of the device. Microsoft, however, issued a statement saying that the Carphone Warehouse statement was due to issues, saying that it was instead out of stock:

“Demand for L950XL has been strong. CPW has listed L950XL as a pre-order purchase for more than a week as it has run out of stock and is awaiting more,” the company said. “L950XL is available to UK customers via other outlets – see here. We are working to re-supply CPW and keep all our other channel partners stocked.”

We have reached out to Microsoft and will keep you posted on their response to Amazon UK’s announcement.

Update – Microsoft did respond with the following statement:

Demand for the Lumia 950XL has been very strong and we’re working hard to keep our channel partners supplied. UK customers can check out the best offers for the Lumia 950XL at http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/mobile/phone/lumia950-xl/offers/?opp=all.”
