Adult Swim’s Rise and Shine coming to Xbox One in 2017

If you’re a fan of old school 2D arcade shooters, an upcoming Xbox One game called Rise and Shine may well bring an interesting take on the well-known formula starting January 2017. Developers from the Spanish studio Super Mega Team describe the game as “a love letter to the whole video games history,” with interesting contemporary inspirations such as the use of a cover system for a 2D shooting game. The game’s graphics also promise to be very polished, with the team explaining that “All the backgrounds in Rise and Shine are ginormous hand-drawn illustrations with different parallax scroll layers.”

The official description notes:

Rise lives on Gamearth, the world of the classic video game characters. He suddenly finds himself in the middle of a war against the Space Grunts from Nexgen planet, the bald, muscular soldiers with big guns that just decided to pull an invasion. Only with the help of the legendary gun, Shine, he’ll be able to stay alive and save his planet from the invaders. The game mixes pure, satisfying shooting arcade with the use of different bullets and add-ons to solve all the situations Rise will find on this adventure.

While Rise an Shine was initially expected to ship in Q2 2016 on Xbox One and PC, the Microsoft Store currently indicates a January 13, 2017 release date. Let us know in the comments if you’re looking forward to play this game next year.
