As we have reported over the last few weeks, some new Surface Pros are randomly hibernating. Microsoft previously revealed that they were investigating the issue, and today the company has said via the Microsoft Answers forum that a fix is coming for the issue soon.

The news is delivered by Bryan H, an employee at Microsoft. He provided an update on a comment he initially posted on July 10th, which said that Microsoft has identified the issue, and is testing a fix that will be delivered via Windows Update. Here is the latest update.

7/12 Update: Just wanted to provide additional information that this fix was not included in the 7/11 Windows update, as testing still continues. I will update this posting when the update is available, also the Surface Pro Update History page will also be updated with the details when it launches.

Given the fact that Microsoft will be delivering the fix via Windows Update, it would appear that the issue could likely be related to firmware. So, if you’re experiencing the hibernation issue, it’s best to keep checking Windows Update, as the fix will likely be on its way soon.
