In a bit of a shocker, Bonnie Ross, Corporate Vice President of Xbox Game Studios and head of 343 Industries, the home of the Halo franchise, has announced her retirement:

Ross has lead the Halo franchise for the last 15 years, launching Halo 4, Halo 5, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, the Halo television series, and Halo Infinite. The move is immediate, with Ross leaving to “attend a family medical issue.” Microsoft has announced that her role at 343 Industries will be split into three parts, with production lead Pierre Hintz taking over the Halo development both current and future, Bryan Koskie to become GM of Franchise, and Elizabeth Van Wyck to oversee business and operations.

The sudden departure of Ross comes at a time when Halo is undergoing already uncertain times, with delays to and less than stellar reception of Halo Infinite and some already calling for changes at 343. Hopefully it all works out well for Ross, who has spent the last 30 years working in Microsoft’s games business.
