While the Windows operating system keeps improving with every new version, the same old familiar glitches arise from time to time.
A lot of the times, users find that their old files or other similar information has somehow been deleted or removed. If you, too, find yourself in such a situation, then you’re at the correct place.
In this article, we’re laid down the best ways you can recover your deleted files and folders from Windows without any hassles. So let’s get started.
1. Backup and Restore
You can restore your deleted Windows files and folders from the built-in backup feature in Windows, provided you had created one before you lost your files. Here’s how you can check for your backup and then restore it:
- Head to the Start menu search bar, type in ‘control panel,’ and select the Best match.
- In the Control Panel, select Backup and Restore (Windows 7).
- Under the Restore section, select the Backup files to be restored.
In my case, for instance, I’ve stored the backup on a USB stick. So I’ll click on Select another backup to restore files from. From there, select and click on Next.
The backup will be restored and along with all the files that were deleted will also be restored back at their place.
2. Do a System Restore
A System Restore is a recovery tool in Windows that restores your Windows files back from a certain point of time. When we talk about restoring files, all we’re really doing is executing a certain Restore Point, which has kept a record of all your settings and file settings in a single place.
To do a restore with System Restore, head to the Start menu search bar.
There, type in ‘system restore,’ and select Create a restore point under System. Now under the System Protection tab, click on System Restore…
A new dialog box will pop open. Click on Next. Now pick the older setting you’d like to go back to, and choose Next. Do this and all the older settings, apps and drivers will be restored back again.
Note that you first need to create a System Restore, before you can think of restoring your Windows files.
