How to get the Windows 10 November 2019 Update (19H2)

Here’s a quick guide for those of you who are new to Windows 10 and want to be on the latest build.

  1. Join the Windows Insider program
  2. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program, and join the Release Preview Ring
  3. Reboot
  4. After rebooting, check Windows Update and you should be offered the November 2019 Update

Microsoft recently revealed that Windows 10 November 2019 Update (19H2) was ready for release.  While the majority of readers on this site are Windows Insiders already running the latest build, here’s a quick guide for those of you who are new and want to be on the latest build of Windows 10.

You have two options.  You can wait until the update is released, or grab the update from the Release Preview ring right now.  The Release Preview ring gives you the ability to receive updates after they have passed the testing phase (known as the development branch).

(Update): One note, if you’re currently on the May 2019 Update and in the Windows Insider Slow Ring, if you change your Insider settings to Release Preview, you won’t be immediately offered the November 2019 Update. It will become available “in the coming weeks.” You can learn more in our post on the November 2019 release news, or just set your PC from Slow to Release Preview and sit back and wait.

Here’s what you need to do.  First, join the Windows Insider program if you haven’t already done so.  After that, while on your Windows 10 computer, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program, and click the “Get Started” button.
