Windows Search Bar

Windows Search makes it easy to find your files and locate online content. Windows tracks your searches to improve accuracy in the future and enable you to revisit past queries. Here’s how to clear your history if you want to start afresh.

The steps in this guide will clear your local search history on your device. Launch the Settings app (Win+I keyboard shortcut) and click the “Search” tile on the homescreen. Scroll the page down to the “History” heading.

Next, press the “Clear device search history” button. All your saved search queries will be removed from the device. If you’d like to stop Windows storing your future searches too, turn the “Search history on this device” toggle to the “Off” position.

Neither of these actions will affect any search history stored online in your Microsoft account. To manage this data, such as Bing search history, click the “Bing search history settings” link on the bottom of the Settings page. You can also follow our separate guide dedicated to deleting Bing data.
