How to manually enable tablet mode (aka Continuum) on Windows 10 build 9926

Continuum is a feature Microsoft is working on for Windows 10, which allows a user to enter a new touchscreen mode for the operating system. For a lack of a better analogy, think of responsive design where a website resizes and fits to the size of the screen. With Continuum, those of you running Windows 10 on a touch screen device can utilize a full-screen touch-friendly environment.

Thankfully, Microsoft has added an option to manually enable or disable tablet mode (aka Continuum, which is a codename for the feature). In fact, you can play around with tablet mode on your PC by manually enabling the setting. Here’s how:

  • Open the PC Settings app and select System.
  • At the bottom of the listed categories, select Tablet Mode.
  • Set ‘Enable tablet mode’ to On.

You will notice that apps are now full screen by default. On top of that, the Start menu is now a Start screen. Of course, Microsoft still has a lot of work to do with this feature, but you can play around with it and see how it feels. You can check out a demonstration of Continuum in the embedded video below (no audio). In our opinion, this is a fantastic feature that allows Windows 10 to adapt to the consumer’s device (regardless of size), rather than the consumer having to adapt to the operating system.
