It’s been a long, fruitful journey since Microsoft introduced the Windows Insider Program. It was on October 1st that Microsoft released the first preview version of Windows 10, which was build 9841, and almost 10 months later, the operating system has made its world debut.
Loyal Insiders are in the millions, spanning across the globe. And having provided Microsoft with millions of bits of feedback, the company has had a lot of ideas and suggestions to process. A necessary hurdle in order to achieve its goal of transforming Windows from an OS that people need, to one that they love.
Now that Windows has reached RTM, it is understandable if you feel exhausted, having lived on the bleeding edge, constantly updating, reinstalling, troubleshooting, and pushing through all the bugs and crashes that the preview threw at you. We understand if you feel that you need some stability in your digital life, so below are the steps that will pull you out of the Insider Program.
Open the Settings app, hit ‘Update & security’
Under Windows Update, hit ‘Advanced options’
Then, under ‘Get Insider builds’, press the ‘Stop Insider Builds’ button
There you have it, Fast and Slow ring updates will no longer automatically install via Windows Update, and you will only get them once they have been thoroughly tested by Microsoft for bugs and instabilities. Naturally, you will receive these updates at a slower rate, but you won’t have to worry about any of the instability frustrations you experienced as an Insider.
Of course, the option will always be there to rejoin the Insider Program should you feel the urge to do so. Let us know in the poll below if you will be staying in the Insider Program or leaving it.
