How to enable the new Logon screen in the Windows 10 Technical Preview

Now that over 2 million people are running the Windows 10 Technical Preview, more and more hidden gems are being discovered. We now know how to enable the new tray icon, how to access Cortana by voice, and how to switch to the Project Spartan rendering engine in Internet Explorer, among others. Today, we are going to show you how to enable the alternative log-on screen in the latest Technical Preview (Build 9926).

Start by hitting Windows Key + S, type “regedit” and hit enter when Cortana suggests the Windows application.

Once there, double-click ‘Threshold’ and change the Value Data from 0 to 1. Leave everything else as it is and hit OK.

Hit Windows Key + L to lock your computer and try out the new Logon screen.

In terms of what’s new in this Logon screen is a circular user profile picture, and other than the accessibility and network icons being repositioned, everything else remains the same.

Keep in mind that the feature has been disabled for a reason so proceed with caution. The new Logon screen does have a hard time accepting passwords and PIN codes at times so we don’t recommend you use the new screen primarily.
