It’s been five years since the release of the first Surface Pro this month, and Microsoft’s CVP of Devices Panos Panay penned a blog post today to look back on this amazing journey. As a reminder, the original Surface Pro weighed 2 pounds (910g), was 13 mm thick and had up to 5 hours of battery life, which sounds quite terrible by today’s standards.
“With each generation and each new product, this team has continued to evolve and innovate, expanding on our original vision to grow with what our customers want and need,” explained Panay. “Products are a reflection of the people that make them and the people that use them. In the last five years, Surface has become known for thin, light, powerful devices, with insane battery power and they’re only going to get better from here,” the exec added.
To celebrate the fifth anniversary of Surface Pro, the US Microsoft Store and select retailers like Best Buy will offer $200 off the price of select 2017 Surface Pro models during President’s Day weekend. The offer will be valid from 12:00 AM PST on February 17 to 11:59 PM PST on February 19, while supplies last. “If you haven’t tried Surface yet, I can assure you there has never been a better time,” wrote Panay.
