WinBeta Favorites: Five top Windows Phone games you need to play right now

Here are my five favorite free games for Windows Phone

Windows Phone store is way behind in terms of apps, but the same cannot be said for games. Several popular developers like Gameloft, Kiloo, and several others have released their popular games for Windows Phone, alongside other major mobile platforms. If you're hunting for an addictive yet challenging game for your Windows Phone handset, we've compiled a list of games which can help you pass your time, and in some cases, waste it. Take a look at them below.

1. Asphalt 8: Airborne

If you're a racing fan, you should have played Asphalt 8: Airborne by now. The app is not just about racing with your opponents and ending up on the first spot, you get to perform thrilling stunts, and race on tracks in exotic locations across the globe such as Venice, Nevada desert, and many more.

The game offers users with over 40 high performance cars from several top manufacturers such as Ferrari, Lamborghini and many more. There are eight challenging seasons with over 180 different events in the calendar mode. As you play along, you get to unlock luxury cars for different events, and make sure you end up on top. Users can also compete and test their driving skills in a multiplayer mode, competing against eight opponents from various parts of the world. The game is available as a free download, but it offers in-app purchases which can unlock different car packs.

2. Subway Surfers

There's no shortage of endless runner games, but to be honest, I found Subway Surfers to be one of the best -- actually my favorite. You start as a kid running on a train track, your task is to get as far as you can, grabbing power ups on the way, and collect as many coins as you can which can be used to purchase several add-ons, board upgrades, character unlock and more.

The reason why I like it more than others is due to its graphics, and the change of environment the developers release with every update -- takes you to a new location with the environment depicting close to what the location has. The game is free, but as with most of the popular ones, it has in-app purchases as well.

3. Royal Revolt 2

I love strategy games, not just on my desktop, but my phone as well. I played a number of strategy games on Windows Phone, but found Royal Revolt 2 to be one of the best. The game is simple, as player, your task is to defend you castle, build strong defenses and lead your hero into battle.

It's a multiplayer game where you have to attack other global players, steal gold, upgrade your troops and defenses, form alliances and much more. The game is available as a free download, but requires an internet connection to play, as well as in-app purchases which costs real money.

4. Flow Free

If you're looking for a simple game to help you pass the time, head over to the Windows Phone Store and download Flow Free. As a player, you have to match same colors, creating a path which should not intersect other colors. You have to make sure the entire board is covered, and no pipes/lines are intersecting each other.

The game gets difficult as you move along, increasing the size of the board, and making it more difficult to fill the entire board. It sounds simple, but it can be quite annoying as you move on to higher levels.

5. Candy Crush Saga

Earlier today, the folks at King released the highly anticipated Candy Crush Saga for Windows Phone. No matter what you have to say, it's one of the most popular puzzle games on iOS and Android -- and yes, I'm one of those people who were waiting for the game to hit the Windows Phone Store.

The game requires you to match three or more similar candies, complete the objective, and aim for the highest score possible. It comes with hundreds of challenging levels, power ups, and boosters to help you get a high score.
