Microsoft retires its GigJam collaboration app after public preview

Preview programs for software can be extraordinarily useful for working out the kinks – it’s the best way to get feedback early on that can shape work in a meaningful way. Such was the case with GigJam, an experimental service that offered a great way to redact information from a document quickly and collaborate on documents without worrying about showing people things they don’t need to see.

GigJam, unfortunately, didn’t get to become a big success story for preview programs. It was announced today that GigJam will no longer be developed, and all existing Gigs will expire on September 22nd, when the app is officially shuttered.

It’s unclear why the decision was made, or if the team plans to integrate GigJam’s functionality into something else. For now, all we know is that users who relied on GigJam have a month to move on to another service for their projects.
